Vision

The Centre for (Post)-Crisis Urban Reconstruction (CURE) envisions a world in which communities and urban areas devastated by war or disaster can rebuild with dignity, justice, and resilience. Our goal is to become a global catalyst for promoting equitable, inclusive, and robust urban environments in crisis and post-crisis contexts. Through innovative recovery and reconstruction approaches, we strive to transform devastation into a catalyst for equity, cultural preservation, and sustainable development—ensuring that every individual and community can flourish in revitalized and reimagined environments.

Mission

Our mission is to co-develop knowledge and actionable frameworks that foster resilience, equity, and flourishing in post-crisis societies, particularly in urban contexts. By integrating research, practice, and collaboration across multiple disciplines, we aim to empower communities to rebuild stronger and more inclusively.

Aims

The Centre addresses the complex challenges posed by multi-faceted crises, which involve social and spatial disruptions, displacement, and destruction stemming from conflict. We seek to drive efforts in the following areas:

  1. Equitable, Sustainable, and Prompt Recovery
Support immediate and fair recovery efforts for communities affected by crises.
  2. Resilience-Based Urban Planning
Re-envision and redesign communities and their urban spaces with resilience at the core.
  3. Holistic Recovery and Reconstruction
Facilitate the recovery and reconstruction of areas devastated socially, mentally, economically, and spatially.
  4. Community Reconnection
Strengthen social cohesion and stimulate economic development, fostering unified and thriving communities.
  5. Environmental Protection and Stewardship
Restore and safeguard unique landscapes, rich biodiversity, and essential natural resources that are vital for long-term conservation.

Objectives

To counter these challenges, CURE will support activities such as:

Infrastructure Repair and Urban Rebuilding:
Restoring essential services, housing, and commercial spaces to revitalize communities.

Socio-Cultural Revitalization:
Strengthening community ties, promoting cultural heritage, and enhancing local capacities for self-sufficiency.

Global Visibility and Integration:
Helping affected regions build their reputation and network within broader regional and global contexts.
